Exporting a Material List to Excel

From time to time it may be necessary for us to send information from our Revit model to others that are not using Revit or that may not even know what Revit is.
In this post I will explore exporting a Wall Material Takeoff Schedule to Excel for use in material scheduling and research.
In Revit we will need to create a Wall Material Takeoff Schedule similar to the one below.

Notice the Fields used include Material: URL, see
http://revitjourneyman.blogspot.com/2010/01/adding-manufacture-data-to-your.html
for adding a URL to your Materials.

Once the Schedule is created we will need to export it to Microsoft Excel by selecting the Revit Application Menu followed by Export then Reports and finally Schedule. This will open the following dialog box in which we will create a text delimited file that can be copy pasted into Excel.

Once in Excel we will see that the URL for the spec file is now available as a hyperlink.

Now we can ensure our intent is clear to all parties in a project.
